Welcome

The Arrow of Morality is a metaethicali theory—a way of thinking about morality—that seeks to make sense of our moral instincts, intuitions and beliefs, such that we can apply this framework to decision-making that will be seen as increasingly "right" even as we head into an increasingly uncertain future.

We'll explore the bases of our morality and see that although we can never be certain of our destination, we can gain increasing certainty as to the rightness of our next step. And that's really all we've ever had, or needed, as we act in the here and now to promote our evolving values into the future we create.

We'll encounter paradoxes involving notions of self, intentionality, and the relationship of the observer to the observed, and we'll find that as agentsi embedded in a reality we can never really know, the chasm between is and ought needs no bridge.

Like the entropic arrow of time, each action we take, with its observed consequences, tends only to expand our context of meaning-making. With the "reality" of the environment selecting for "what works", we tend to adapt in the direction of increasing coherence over increasing contexti.

This book is a work in progress.  Your comments and criticisms are appreciated, and like a reflection of the thesis itself, may shape its growth in the direction of increasing coherence over increasing context, seen therefore as increasingly right.
